The hotly-anticipated Bluey movie officially cements a release date. Unfortunately, it is probably further away than fans were expecting.

Per Variety, the long-awaited Bluey animated feature film has finally secured an official release date. As of the time of writing, the Bluey movie is expected to arrive in theaters everywhere on Aug. 6, 2027. The Bluey movie will also be made available for streaming on ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia and on Disney+ in other regions following its theatrical debut.

The Bluey movie is written and directed by original series creator Joe Brumm, who also serves as executive producer, and is being produced through Ludo Studio. Richard Jeffrey, who worked on the first three seasons of Bluey, is co-directing the feature alongside Amber Saismith, whose credits include Happy Feet and The Lego Movie. Unsurprisingly, the film will mark the return of numerous members of the original voice cast, including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack in their roles of Bluey and Bingo's parents, Chilli and Bandit.

Bluey premiered back in 2018 and immediately became a popular favorite among young audiences, not to mention their parents. The light-hearted preschool series follows Bluey, a six-year-old Blue Heeler puppy living with her four-year-old sister Bingo and their parents, Chilli and Bandit. The series features an expansive cast of characters representing over a dozen different dog breeds. Since its debut, Bluey has amassed a staggering 154 admittedly short episodes over the course of three seasons, with no official word on when Bluey Season 4 might be entering production.

Why One Episode of Bluey was Pulled from ABC's iview Catalog

It was reported that the fan-favorite Bluey episode "Hammerbarn" was being pulled from ABC iview in Australia. Rather than being due to any ongoing controversy, however, the episode was pulled to conform with standards set forth by the Australian Broadcasting Company regarding corporate partnerships. As explained in a statement from an ABC representative at the time, the episode was pulled so that there would be no conflict of interest due to an commercial partnership between BBC Studios and hardware store chain Bunnings. "As the ABC cannot align with a commercial brand or partnership, the Bluey episode 'Hammerbarn' will temporarily be unavailable on ABC iview while the Bunnings Hammerbarn campaign is live," the statement read.

Bluey is currently slated to make its way into theaters on Aug. 6, 2027.
