Before the new Masters of the Universe movie brought He-Man back to the big screen, there was the wild, weird and unforgettable 1987 live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. On Your Nerd Side News, Fonseca takes a look back at this cult favorite and asks a simple question: Is the original He-Man movie worth streaming today? We'll revisit what made the movie so different from the animated series, why fans still debate it decades later, and how its version of Eternia, Skeletor and He-Man compares with the franchise people know today. The timing is especially fun because Masters of the Universe is once again a major entertainment property, and the 1987 movie is currently available through multiple U.S. streaming services. Was the 1987 movie ahead of its time? Was it completely off the rails? Or has it actually become more fun with age? ould Lana Condor return as Jubilee in Marvel’s new X-Men era? Lana Condor first played Jubilation Lee — Jubilee — in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, but much of the material she filmed never made it into the finished movie. Now Condor says she would love another chance to play the fan-favorite mutant — and this time, she wants Jubilee to have a role that really matters. Even more interesting: Condor says she has spoken with filmmakers connected to Marvel’s upcoming X-Men project about the possibility of returning. That does not mean she has officially been cast, but it certainly makes the conversation more interesting for longtime X-Men fans. Jubilee has been a favorite of X-Men fans for decades, especially because of her major presence in the classic animated series and her return to animation in X-Men ’97. Condor has also talked about wanting another opportunity to do the character justice after her limited screen time in X-Men: Apocalypse. Would you bring Lana Condor back as Jubilee, or should Marvel recast the character for its new X-Men universe? A galaxy of smugglers, scoundrels and Star Wars adventures is waiting! On Your Nerd Side News, Fonseca takes a look at Star Wars: Smugglers and Scoundrels, exploring what fans should know about the graphic novel and why the criminal underworld has always been such an important—and entertaining—part of Star Wars. From smugglers and bounty hunters to some of the galaxy's less-than-reputable characters, Star Wars has always shown us that not every adventure is about Jedi and Sith. We'll look at what makes this graphic novel interesting for Star Wars readers, where its characters and stories fit into the larger galaxy, and whether this is something casual fans and serious Star Wars collectors should have on their radar. And it raises a fun question: Who is the greatest Star Wars scoundrel of all time? Han Solo? Lando Calrissian? Hondo Ohnaka? Or someone else entirely? Tell us your pick in the comments! The walkers are coming to Netflix! On Your Nerd Side News, Fonseca dives into The Walking Dead and what its growing presence on Netflix means for longtime fans—and for viewers discovering the zombie phenomenon for the first time. The Walking Dead became much more than a television show. What started as a story about surviving a zombie apocalypse grew into an enormous universe of survivors, villains, communities and spin-offs. Characters like Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Michonne, Carol and Negan became some of television's most recognizable characters. But with so much Walking Dead content out there, where should a new viewer start? We'll talk about watching The Walking Dead on Netflix, why the original series became such a cultural phenomenon, whether it still holds up for someone starting it today, and how the larger Walking Dead universe has continued beyond the original show's finale. And there's an important question for longtime fans: Does putting more Walking Dead content on Netflix give the franchise a whole new life with younger and first-time viewers? With Halloween approaching, this could be the perfect time to enter the world of walkers—or return to it. What's the greatest era of The Walking Dead? And who's your favorite survivor?
