Obi-Wan Kenobi Poster Hides a Massive Darth Vader Easter Egg in Plain Sight

A piece of key art for Obi-Wan Kenobi contains an Easter egg calling back to the painful history between the Jedi Master and his former student.

The promotional poster uploaded by the official Star Wars Twitter account depicts Obi-Wan traversing the seemingly endless deserts of Tatooine, with a cylindrical object in his hand. Perceptive viewers might recognize the mysterious item as the lightsaber of Jedi-turned-Sith Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader.

The lightsaber was previously used by Anakin throughout his time spent as a Jedi General during the events of the Clone Wars, where it served as his main armament against everything from battle droids to other Force users. However, he lost the weapon after he was defeated at the hands of Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith, with the Jedi Master taking the lightsaber and leaving the corrupted Anakin to burn in the lava pits of Mustafar. Years after their fateful duel, Obi-Wan would then bestow the blade upon Anakin's son Luke Skywalker and begin training him in the Force.

While it's unclear if the lightsaber will be used during the storyline of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it seems its former master is already preparing for another round. Just as Ewan McGregor will reprise the role of Obi-Wan, Hayden Christensen will once again don Darth Vader's black cybernetic suit, though he won't be the only one to bring the Sith Lord back to life. He'll reportedly be joined by actor Dmitrious Bistrevsky and stuntman Tom O'Connell, who will portray Vader when he is masked and during combat sequences, respectively.

McGregor also spoke about his and Christensen's homecoming to the Star Wars franchise, promising watchers would enjoy their returning performances. "I think it's no secret that Hayden Christensen comes back and we got to play scenes together again as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker and it was great to work with him again," McGregor said. Though he refused to give specific details concerning the plot of Obi-Wan Kenobi, McGregor promised fans they would be in for an engaging narrative. Similarly, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy guaranteed the series wouldn't disappoint in delivering the "rematch of the century" between the two old foes.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on May 25.
