A behind-the-scenes photo from Hawkeye features Jeremy Renner in Ronin gear, hinting that the upcoming series will revisit Clint Barton's vigilantism.
Marvel Studios/Disney+'s Hawkeye might revisit one of Clint Barton's alter egos.
Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner posted a photo of himself in full Ronin gear on his Instagram story, captioning the photo, "Back when..." Fans of the archer character speculated that the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series will delve into the characters' Ronin years.
During Avengers: Endgame, it was revealed that Barton had donned the mantle of Ronin and started to hunt down criminals after he lost his wife and children during Thanos' decimation of half the universe. In Marvel Comics canon, Barton donned the Ronin mantle after the events of the Civil War miniseries.
Details on the upcoming Hawkeye series remain scarce, though it will follow Barton training Kate Bishop to follow in his footsteps as Hawkeye.
Previously, the Ronin mantle was held by Maya Lopez, who also took up the mantle of Echo. Hawkeye will see Echo appear in the series, as portrayed by Alaqua Cox. After Hawkeye, Cox will reprise her role for an Echo spinoff, which is reportedly in development at Disney+ with Etan and Emily Cohen attached as writers and producers. Previous photos and video from the set of Hawkeye also showed Cox in full Echo gear.
Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Jolt as Pizza Dog/Lucky, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Fra Fee as Kazi, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne/Swordsman, Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez. The Disney+ series has yet to receive a premiere date.
